Some domains are worth millions, and have sold for millions very easily. You just have to look for the right stuff, find a new thing that's coming out and be able to sell it.
Some things I've sold: MTGPros.com for 1,000, like I said, some even sold in the millions such as:
Answers.travel DOMAIN sold for $3.3 Million
YP.com DOMAIN sold for $3.85 Million
Fly.com DOMAIN sold for $1.76 Million
SolarEnergy.com sold for $1.65 Million
I'm not saying you'll become a millionaire, but you will be able to get some money if you just get the right domain.
9$ a month for a domain is nothing really, and its very easy too keep up, 1) Pay 2) Do nothing!
Now, what you will need to do is, find something thats very new and something that people have spoken about... such as Oprah, maybe she talks about a new diet pill? Make a domain, maybe Apple is changing something for the iPod touch for jail breaking? Make a domain if you want too!
